Dear Neighbors,
I’ve come to you in the past for assistance when I came across someone in need and I am coming to you again.
Recently I was called to one of the offices of York County Board of Disabilities & Special Needs where I met with staff members who were having difficulty with one of their clients. After calming the individual who was causing the disturbance, I viewed the computer room where he had become disorderly. Several of the computers were damaged beyond repair… a difficult loss for an already over used and under funded facility.
I spoke with the staff about the possibility of insurance replacements or funding. Sadly the staff explained they must report the loss and that the computers will not be replaced.
This particular faculty provides special needs individuals with opportunities to interact socially, work on various projects, and practice reading and other basic skills.
I was moved when one of the staff members explained in near tears that the facility had recently received a touch screen computer which allowed some of the more physically challenged individuals to use the computers. That particular computer was destroyed and will not be replaced anytime soon.
I would like to ask the Almond Glen neighborhood to donate in anyway you can to help purchase at least one new touchscreen computer for this facility. There are many different charities and causes which will ask for your help at this time of year… and I realize you can’t give to all of them. There are few opportunities such as this one where your money will go 100% to the individuals in need and where you will see an immediate need resolved.
I have looked around and it seems a new touchscreen PC will cost about $800.00. If you happen to know a better value I would appreciate that information. Please keep in mind a local source would be preferred as it would make any warranty’s of repairs easier.
If you are willing and able to help, please contact me either by phone (803-322-3449) or email (Almondglenhoa@gmail.com).
Thanks,
Rob Smith
